While games such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent played with the idea of not being able to attack the monster or defend yourself in any way, there was still constant forward momentum and ways to abuse the enemy's AI. Before it came out, the concept of simply being trapped in an area and trying to achieve some kind of objective without being able to defend yourself in any way was noted as being completely original at the time. It also brought into existence a whole new genre of horror games. It is easily one of the most well known horror creatures out there now because of it.
